The ascent route to Tegeneklibashi peak is graded 1B according to the Russian Mountaineering Federation classification.

Duration: 10+ hours.

Start

The route begins in Tegenekli village near the power line tower. The trail initially goes up and then veers left. At this turn, you need to leave the trail to the right, traverse for 600 meters, and then climb the grassy slope to the ridge.

This initial ascent takes about 50 minutes.

Upon reaching the ridge, you can walk a little east to an elevation point—it's an excellent viewpoint.

After this, a long ascent along the ridge begins.

The Ridge

Initially, the path along the ridge goes over a grassy slope. Higher up, the grass is replaced by rocks and scree, followed by rocky crags.

All difficult sections are bypassed on the left.

Here, among the rocks, you might encounter hawk habitats.

This section ends at the base of the final climb to Mount Tegeneklibashi itself. An alternative approach route also merges here.

Ascent to the Summit

  • The first part is a scree traverse to a large boulder, where the main climb begins.
  • The second section goes from the boulder to the ridge, requiring simple scrambling. The end of this section is not obvious: you must veer left and climb up a relatively flat surface to reach the ridge proper.
  • The third section involves crossing over the ridge. A rock wall with a crack serves as a landmark here. However, do not go straight towards it: you need to descend slightly and scramble down to the other side of the ridge.
  • The final section is a climb up a scree slope. Just move carefully upward to the summit.

Estimated time for this final ascent stage is 1 hour and 20 minutes.

The Summit

The summit offers stunning panoramas of Elbrus, Irikchat, Donguzorun, and Cheget mountains, as well as the Irik, Irikchat, Yusengi, and Adyl-Su gorges.

Descent Section

The descent goes west of the Tegeneklibashi summit—towards Baidaevo village.

Initially, the path goes down a scree slope, which then turns into alpine meadows. There are no trails here. Along the way, you will find a stream where you can refill water and take a rest. After this, traverse west, then descend to a patch of trees. Finally, you'll reach a trail leading down to Baidaevo village.

Finish

You can end the route right in Baidaevo. Alternatively, cross the highway, take the bridge over the Baksan River to join the 'Narzanov Meadow – Tegenekli' eco-trail, and complete the loop back to the start.

Equipment

As this is a 1B category mountaineering route, gear choices should be individualized based on physical condition and experience. In summer, with good fitness, skills, and weather, the route can be done without specialized climbing gear.
