Out and back

A technically interesting route along the 'Forest Mosaic' eco-trail in the Adyl-Su Gorge. Ideal for practicing trail running technique.

The trail winds through the forest parallel to the road. The terrain is 'jagged': constant short descents and ascents are layered onto the overall elevation gain. Along the way, you'll encounter rocky sections and a shallow (often semi-dry) stream that is easily crossed over stones.

The route is run as an out-and-back. It is very easy to adjust the distance and load by choosing one of the turnaround points:

  • Shkhelda Alpine Camp;
  • The bridge over the Adyl-Su River or the far road serpentine;
  • 'Old Jantugan' or 'New Jantugan' Alpine Camps;
  • Ochag Hut (for maximum distance).

Tip: If you are tired of the technical trail on the way back, you can swap the 'Forest Mosaic' for the dirt road. This makes the descent easier, though the scenery is slightly less interesting.
