Itkol Peak

Ascent of Itkol Peak
The route to Itkol Peak is simple, with a visible trail for almost the entire distance. The final push to the summit goes over rocks and scree – the path is obvious.
The route offers views of Cheget, Donguzorun, Nakratau, Bolshoy and Malyy Kogutay, Mount Elbrus, as well as the Peak Terskol Observatory and the Ice Base. The summit provides a great overview of the Adyl-Su and Yusengi gorges.
There are three elevations at the summit of Itkol Peak: the nearest one can be walked up, while the middle one requires some minor scrambling.
This is a classic acclimatization route for climbing Mount Elbrus.
Notes
- There are no water sources on the route – you must carry all your water.
- It is not recommended to hike this route in rainy weather.
