It is important to remember that trail running often includes sections where running is impossible or impractical. Be prepared for hiking ascents and technical descents.
Thin air and low oxygen levels. This can lead to fatigue, headaches, and other symptoms of altitude sickness. Don't forget about acclimatization!
Weather can change throughout the day. Be prepared for rain, wind, sun, and temperature fluctuations.
Some routes pass through remote areas without mobile connection or easy access to help. Be careful and do not take unnecessary risks.
Prielbrusye has a cable car system, but they are only available on the slopes of Elbrus and Cheget. On most routes, you will have to rely solely on your own strength.

Season
The recommended period for trail running is from mid-June to mid-October. During this time, mountain trails are generally free of snow, and weather conditions are the most favorable for running.
June is a transitional month. In early June, you can still find snow at higher altitudes, and the weather can be quite changeable, with rain and fog. July and August are the peak of the summer season. During this time, Prielbrusye is warm and sunny, which is ideal for difficult, long-distance runs and ascents. In September, the mountains turn bright autumn colors, there are fewer tourists, and the weather remains quite stable and sunny.
October is the end of the season. The weather becomes cool and unstable, and snow falls at higher altitudes. As a rule, by mid-October, the trail running season in Prielbrusye comes to an end.
Every year in August, the Alpindustria Elbrus Race takes place – one of the most famous and challenging trail running races in Russia, attracting athletes from all over the world.

Geography
Prielbrusye is a mountain region in Kabardino-Balkaria, located in the central part of the North Caucasus, near the border with Georgia. The heart of the region is the twin-peaked Mount Elbrus (5642 m) – the highest peak in Russia and Europe, towering over the Baksan River gorge, where the main settlements are concentrated.
The relief of Prielbrusye is characterized by pronounced altitudinal zonation. Here you can find alpine meadows and forests, while higher up, rocky areas, moraines, and glaciers begin. Prielbrusye features deep gorges (such as Adyl-Su, Irikchat, Terskol), majestic mountains (like Donguzorun, Nakratau, Dzhantugan), fast rivers, and numerous glaciers descending from the mountains. It is worth noting that each gorge in Prielbrusye has its own unique character and landscape, offering unique opportunities for trail running.
Prielbrusye is characterized by a significant elevation difference: from approximately 1700 meters above sea level (Verkhny Baksan village) to 5642 meters at the summit of Elbrus.
Trail running routes in Prielbrusye span a wide range of altitudes, typically from 1800 to 4000 meters above sea level, with some routes going even higher.
